The Silken Windhounds of California Club started out as a small group of enthusiasts that quickly grew into the largest regional club for the breed. The SWC have been holding events since 2000 but formally became part of the ISWS as a club in 2007.
In 2013 the SWC celebrated its 10th Annual Western Regional Specialty event, featuring conformation shows, racing and lure coursing.
In Dec 2009 the SWC formally became an affiliate ASFA club, and began holding ASFA events in 2010. In 2011 the SWC formally became a LGRA club and began holding events in 2012.
The club is organized by a passionate group of enthusiastic Silken owners and breeders in California who share a common goal of
increasing the visibility of our wonderful breed by participating in the many events available to us in this region, as well as sponsoring our own events.
The SWC provides many opportunities for Silken Windhounds to shine. In addition to shows and performance events we host Silken Windhound-themed educational seminars, health testing opportunities, and just all-round fun for Silken Windhounds and honorary Silken Windhounds: puppy parties, get togethers, dental cleaning get togethers, frequent beach runs and canine birthday parties.
In addition to participating in licensed conformation shows, straight racing events, oval track, lure coursing events, and open field coursing events we assist in rescue operations and facilitate communication between Silken Windhound owners and breeders throughout the country.
The SWC is the home of many of the “firsts” for the breed: the first ISWS regional club, the first Silken Windhound LGRA club and the first Silken Windhound ASFA club. The many first show and performance champions were Silkens who lived in or were born in California.
